Rosie Perez
Rosie Perez, born Rosa Maria Perez June 6, 1964, is an American dancer and choreographer. Her breakout moment came from her portrayal of Tina in the film Do the Right Thing (1989), which was followed by White Men Can't Jump (1992). Perez's performance in Fearless (1993), won her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. It Could Happen to You (1994) as well as The Road to El Dorado(2000) and Pineapple Express(8) and Birds of Prey(2020) are some of her most prominent films.
Perez got three Primetime Emmy Award nominations for In Living Color (1990-1994) and another Emmy nomination for her role in The Flight Attendant (2020-present). Perez has appeared in Broadway stage plays like The Ritz and Frankie, Johnny in the Clair de Lune and Fish in the Dark. She also hosted the 18th season of ABC's talk show The View.
Early life
Perez was born in Brooklyn's Bushwick on September 6, 1964, to Lydia Perez, a merchant maritime seaman, and Ismael Serano. Perez's mother Lydia Fontanez y Reyes was born in Humacao (Puerto Rico) on October 13, 1939. Her father came from Aguadilla in Puerto Rico. Arturo Perez, her mother's husband, was twenty years older than her. After an affair with the father of Serrano Perez's mother been blessed with five kids. Perez was born in the now closed Greenpoint Hospital, Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn.
Perez is among the ten kids her mother borne. Rosie as well as her siblings were raised in Bushwick as their mother was often in jail. Her mother gave birth to her first child while in prison. She was raised by an aunt and afterward, as did her siblings, passed through foster homes and group homes. Her siblings and she were often split up. She was put in a group foster home, and was in foster care New York until she reached age eight. It was legal to consider her as a ward of the State of New York from age 12 up to age 12. Aunts and her mother often visited her, and her father made an unsuccessful attempt to get custody of her at some point.
